The National Collegiate Athletic Association was established more than a century back on the worthwhile principals of securing and benefiting trainee professional athletes. Today’s NCAA falls woefully brief of satisfying those objectives. “Business of Amateurs” sets out to make the case that the NCAA puts the revenues of college sports programs across the country ahead of the very best interests of professional athletes and their households. Documentary filmmaker and previous USC lineman Bob DeMars pulls no punches as the movie deals with numerous beats, from the exploitation of the professional athlete to the occurrence of brain injury intrinsic to college football, and methodically mentions the hypocrisy and oppressions that, sometimes, are life or death concerns.
